Yes, despite all the controversial news around him, he was a great performer and very much influenced by JB. Allso showed great respect for JB. I heard it round midnight (Holland) and the message that he died was not yet confirmed. But now they have. Very sad news.... Yco

Although they are waiting for the press conference of the hospital...

I have just become a member and am a huge michael jackson and james brown fan.I find it very poignant and perfect in a way that the last time Michael Jackson danced on stage was with his idol and mentor, James Brown. There is nothing but content, joy and pure happiness when Michael was on stage that night and only James brown could just say 2, 3 and make michael jackson move.

Nonone of us can or should assume what actually happened to him but I am just a fan of them both and felt a void leave me when James Brown passed away, imagine what it was like for Michael.I truly feel that that image of Michael leaving the court room that final day showed a changed and different man and when Mr Brown died, that was another critical moment for him that could have been a factor that contributed to all this.Very interestig seeing Rev Al Sharpton talking about how Michael phoned him in the middle of the night to have a private viewing of Mr Brown and also the rare picture he showed in that conference...

In my eyes there is a link of the greatest entertainers who have broken down days through they genius and innovation. There is video proof on youtube of this 'passing of the torch' and it goes from Sammy Davis Jr to passing the torch when james brown performed on the hollywood palace and Sammy was presesnting to James passing the torch to Michael at the bb king concert and at the bet awards..This line has now stopped and the last great entertainer and song and dance man has gone too soon

'Born through a muse, to inspire, to delight, here one day, gone one night..

rip The Teacher and the Pupil..Watching this bet clip now is too poignant for words

When Michael Jackson walked onto the stage at James Brown Arena on Dec. 30, 2006, to say a few words about the man from whom he emulated many of his dance moves, the thousands there beseeched him to do a few of his own.

Deanna Brown Thomas knows why and is grateful for the pop singer's restraint at her father's funeral.

"He didn't come for show," Mrs. Thomas said on Thursday after learning of the pop singer's death. "Everybody wanted him to get on the stage and dance, and he didn't do that. He came to give respect and that's what he did. Michael came as Michael, a friend and a huge fan of Dad."

She said she gained even more respect for Mr. Jackson for the way he came to Augusta, not being accompanied by the usual entourage that clings to celebrities of Mr. Jackson's stature. That let her know, she said, that the singer truly came to honor her father.

Mrs. Thomas said Mr. Jackson loved her father, and the feeling was mutual. She said one of his fondest memories was of the self-proclaimed "King of Pop" presenting the "Godfather of Soul" a lifetime achievement award from BET in 2003.

"I know that day Dad was so happy and elated," Mrs. Thomas said. "It touched dad's heart."

Mr. Jackson came to Augusta the day before the funeral, she said. After he arrived and met with the family, he requested a private viewing of his idol, which was granted. Mrs. Thomas said he spent at least a couple of hours with her father at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home.

The humbleness Mr. Jackson showed was something that took others by surprise.

"He just seemed like such a humble, quiet person," said Robert "Flash" Gordon, the general manager of the arena at the time. "He had such a sweet-like personality. I thought he would have been more standoffish."

Mr. Gordon, who owns two music stores, said he expects there to be a run today on Jackson paraphernalia, similar to what happened after Mr. Brown's death.

He said he sold out of Jackson CDs soon after the news of the singer's passing.

"There's going to be a whole lot of interest," Mr. Gordon said. "I won't have enough (today). It's going to be like when Mr. Brown died."

Mrs. Thomas, who said she contacted the Jackson family to pay her respect, knows a lot of the interest in Mr. Jackson will be directed toward his behavior.

She said her father never was put off by what was reported about Mr. Jackson, an empathy gained from him too being in the public spotlight for decades.

"My dad understood the business," Mrs. Thomas said. "He understood how things can get carried away in the media. By the time the story get printed or the story get told, it might be 10 different ways. Dad understood very well how things worked."

She said there will never be another Michael Jackson or James Brown.

The music they made will never be duplicated, Mrs. Thomas said, though it might be carried on somewhere other than this earth.

"Can you imagine what that heavenly choir is going to be like now?" she asked. "Hmm, Hmm, Hmm."

:sniffle: There's no doubt that this fragile, interesting, and tremendously talented man suffered terribly over the last fifteen years or so, although, from time to time, he still put on a few series of tremendous performances (especially around 2002). As a long time JB fan, I was never fond of the "Motown Sound," and when he leaped beyond that he was able to really assert himself artistically. He is a great talent, and it's tragic that his personal life became so difficult and lonely in these last several years. May he rest in peace.

If you hear any noise...

Was devastated by the news.

It was Michael who brought me to James Brown - the same is true of a lot of Mr Brown's younger fans.

I had tickets to see Michael.

I can console myself with the fact that I saw him in person a few times, but I will miss him.

Now my two heroes are gone.

I'm glad about that. He came close to tearing the media a new hole when he brought MJ up at JB's memorial... I hope he goes all out this time.

It was a local New York tv station and they had it as a live-stream on their internet site (I'm in Germany)... You could see all the people walking by the open casket. Their camera for the live stream seemed to be fixed however...

Did anybody see Bill O'Reilly shouting at Al Sharpton that Michael Jackson was not an African American icon?

He was saying Jackson wasn't a black icon because his children were white.

I don't know why when Michael Jackson is involved, even the most normal things become indicative of his 'bizarre' nature.

Maybe Jackson was infertile. Maybe he went to the clinic and said I don't care what race the donor is, as long as they're healthy and intelligent.

Why would that be weird? People do that every single day. But to Bill O'Reilly, Jackson having white children is the weirdest thing ever and means he hates black people.

O'Reilly is a [Censored]beast.

TO:TwistedVision

I have to confess I felt like Michael Jackson left the black community at one point in time. he seem to be at times Ashame of being black. I Believe that Quincy Jones the producer of the all time biggest selling Album Thrilla have said. "Michael didn't like being black"

I disagree. MJ always surrounded himself with black people and throughout his entire career he donated huge amounts of money behind the scenes to black colleges and so on. He was affiliated with the NAACP, BET and was planning lots of work to fight AIDS in Africa.

He gave a wonderful interview on Sharpton's radio show in 2005 in which he spoke in an incredibly articulate and knowledgable way about his African heritage, the media's history of attacking Africa, his knowledge of Jack Johnson and the Unforgivable Blackness book/TV series.

He also fought for the rights of black artists. In 2002 he attended two summits about racism in the music industry in which he spoke about James Brown and other black artists, and how they were so abused by the industry that they had to tour into old age or else they would go broke.

MJ and JB were apparently good friends behind the scenes all along.

Ian Halperin claims in his new book that MJ even rang one of JB's relatives, with whom he was very friendly, in the days before he died.

I doubt MJ and JB hung out much - MJ was constantly travelling and JB was aways on the road - but I wouldn't be surprised if they spoke on the phone a lot.

MJ has been close to Al Sharpton for many years, too, so there was always that link between the two.

According to Rolling Stone, one of the songs recorded for Michael Jackson's new album was called 'I'm Gonna Miss You' and was a tribute to James Brown.

FYI, in around October 2006 MJ expressed an interest to Will.I.Am in recording a duet with James Brown. However, Mr Brown passed away shortly afterwards.

I wonder what happened to this documentary.

They should have edited it and screened it within the first few months after Mr B died - it would have generated a lot of interest.

I hope we see it one day, as it no doubt included lots of pro-shot footage of JB's 2005 tour. I think that was probably the best tour JB did during his last decade. he seemed to have a renewed energy and enthusiasm after beating the prostate cancer. I couldn't believe how good he was when I saw him in London in Summer 2005.

yea that documentary should have been released as just a glimpse of a way of showing the world how important, influentianl and innovative james brown was...most people still don't realise how BIG he actually is..he is like a mozart and is just as important...

everyone should listen this interview..this is a classical point of view remember and really shows aspects of his genius..that terms should be used lightly in music...he was a genius no question..no just a mans world or sex machine man...he had soooooooooo many levels...i still can't comprehend it all

http://americanpublicmedia.publicradio.org/programs/mtt_files/mtt_0...

but in terms of mj n jb talking on the phone, has anyone seen this clip...jb n mj backstage...how god i wish the wholeee thing was released instead of private phonecalls of mj that i am sure he wanted private...so sick how after he died that is when the true snakes appear and now everyone feels its fair game to release phone calls or mjs hair on fire etc...just so sick...twisted world full of hypocrites...they act like we have a right to see it or we wanted to..he was a human being !!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELB0EjBCjv0....this suggest mj n jb only started talking on phone after this meeting??

and does anyone think the mj jb bet moment was rehearesed ...the band only played te bridge of sex machine when mj came out and never in jbs performance..i doubt it but do feel everyone on stage knew mj was coming on apart from jb..or jb/mj are jst good actors....i just hope it wasn't and they created someting so pure and smooth that it could have been rehearsed because it looked so natural
